Mr. Stone
I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and attended T.F. South High School. I went to the University of Illinois at Chicago to obtain my Bachelor's Degree in history with minors in mathematics, theater, and English. During my time at UIC, I was priviliged with the opportunity to perform a production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town at the Theater of Moscow-Southwest in Moscow, Russia, and I spent a year studying abroad at the University of Chiba just outside of Tokyo, Japan.
Upon graduation, I returned to Japan to teach English. After living several years in Japan, I decided to come back to Chicago and enter the business sector. Despite having success in my new career, I missed the experience of teaching and working with students. I reevaluated my goals and enrolled in Roosevelt University to obtain my teaching credentials.
I did my student teaching at Lincoln Park High School and then went on to teach at Prologue Early College High School. I have taught many subjects at the high school level, including geometry, pre-calculus, history, consumer education, geography, and law. I believe that subjects in high school are not totally separate--they overlap with each other in the classroom just as the skills learned from the classes overlap into different fields in careers and society.
In my free time, I enjoy watching as many Chicago Cubs games as possible, reading novels and non-fiction history/math/science books, trivia, video games, music (mostly rock, electronic, jazz and classical), and studying Japanese language and culture. I would like to travel to Europe or back to Japan in the near future, and I hope to live long enough to see the Cubs win the World Series.
Currently, I am completing my Master of Arts in Secondary Education at Roosevelt University, and I am a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
